System Requirements for Luna Display

Primary Device Requirements

Mac Requirements

The Primary Mac can be used for either Mac-to-iPad Mode or Mac-to-Mac Mode.

  • Model: 2011 or newer
  • Operating system: macOS 10.11 El Capitan or later
M1 Apple Silicon support

Luna Display supports the M1 and M2 Apple Silicon chip on Mac, though there are some hardware limitations on the number of external displays allowed. Be sure to check Apple's device technical specifications to see what is compatible with your specific M1 and M2 Mac. 

PC Requirements 

The Primary PC can be used for either PC-to-Mac Mode or PC-to-iPad Mode.

  • Operation system: Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit, Build 1809 or later
  • Processor: Intel or AMD processor with 64-bit support; 2 GHz or faster
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • GPU: Intel HD Graphics 520, AMD Radeon RX Vega 3, NVIDIA GeForce 820M or later; or equivalent DirectX 11 compatible GPU.
  • Hard drive space: 1 GB
  • WiFi/Network: 802.11n or wired ethernet

Luna Display does not support Surface Pro devices.

Secondary Device Requirements

iPad Requirements

For Computer-to-iPad Mode, the iPad must at least be running iOS 12.1 or later. 32-bit devices are not supported.

Mac Requirements

For Computer-to-Mac Mode, the Secondary Mac must be running macOS 10.11 El Capitan or later. See Apple's support article for a list of Macs that can support macOS 10.11 El Capitan.

Note: Luna only supports the secondary iMac as a retina display when using a USB-C Luna. Otherwise, it will act as a non-retina display. More on that here

Is the Luna Display hardware required to run the apps?

Yes, the Luna Display hardware unit is required for all connections, whether you are connecting via Wi-Fi or via cable (USB, Ethernet, or Thunderbolt). The apps will not work without the Luna Display hardware plugged into the primary Mac.

Luna Display only supports devices running macOS, iPadOS, and Windows 10. Luna does not work on Android, Linux, or ARM-based devices.
